Putting Lyrics To a Test

For the past month or so I have just been going through a creative dry spell.  Ugh I hate those periods of life!  I never forgot that I keep a blog and that people actually read it…it’s just I didn’t really have anything worth sharing…..until now…..

Clip from official music video "Thrift Shop" By Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Ok, so who HASN’T heard the “Thrift Shop” song?  If you are one of those people who haven’t that’s ok because there is a bit of vulgarity in it….if you don’t hear the “clean” version. (I did buy the clean version on itunes though so no worries ^_^

That being said, what does that have to do with my “dry spell”?  Well the whole song is about this guy who finds clothes in thrift shops much cooler than expensive brand name clothing.  In the chorus of the song one of the lines says:

“I’m gonna pop some tags only got twenty dollars in my pocket”

When I heard this I was like…huh? What the mess does “pop tags” means?? After doing a little research I came to find out its where you switch price tags around so the clerk rings it up for less than what it is…

Actual sign found in one of the thrift shop

Ok so I didn’t try the “poppin tags” aspect of the song, but I totally forgot how much you can really purchase at thrift shops with just $20!  Conveniently also around this time, I began my obsession with finding these really cute shoes I want really badly!

One of these in a woman's 7.5 or 8 please!

I was given a chance recently to go out with one of my friends Fred (aka Laura T),

talk about a sight for sore eyes :)

with the catch that I could only spend $20 in thrift shops total!

Let the Journey begin….

 Greatest burger joint in Carytown!

Ok well, actually our excursion started off at this new Richmond burger joint called “Burger Bach”.  It is a little on the pricey side, BUT let me tell you… totally worth every penny!
I did something out of the ordinary at a restaurant and that was ordering an adult beverage that paired well with my food.  I figured hey I’m 24, it’s one drink and I am not driving anywhere for several hours so why not?!

So I did what I would assume any uneducated about alcohol person would do and asked our waiter what I should order.  Our waiter was so nice and extremely knowledgeable about food and drink pairings, and what was even greater is I was given a sample to see if that beverage was something I would actually be ok with ordering!

a sample of the Allagash White

I ended up ordering a small Allagash White with a “Basic Burger”. Though this burger may sound plain, it was anything but! Burger Bach is known for making sure they use fresh and organic produce and that the beef used are grass fed and is well taken care of…so needless to say, the burger was uh-mazing! And the Allagash White paired with it…well words cannot describe the epicness of flavor that I experienced!

The burger comes with a side salad which was also really good!

Laura suggested trying their fries...and trust me they are worth trying!

Not gonna lie, I kind of want the shirt the staff have to wear....

So after a not so ordinary lunch stop, we really started on our journey to see how far $20 could go at thrift shops…..

The day was kind of a bust…. I ended up spending a grand total of….. $2.08….womp womp

Brightside, this purse is pretty cute.

Thrift find of the day

A wise friend once told that “you can’t go thrift shopping with something in mind”, sounds like finding those shoes cursed me for the day.

Though I may not have found exactly what I was looking for, I did wind up leaving with a tummy full of goodness, and an inexpensive new spring/summer accessory!

Alright, I tried this challenge once…now I dare you to try it too! Comment below “Challenge Accepted” if you’re up for it.  Then email me back at lcmcneely@gmail.com with your outcome/pictures of your experience (successful/bust) and who knows….maybe I will share it with the masses in a future post!
